Spotlight on Excellence

Anne Babson (English) was invited to read work from her latest poetry collection The Bunker Book at the Poetry Buffet Series hosted by Latter Library in New Orleans. Gerlinde Beckers (department) has received the 2023 Governor’s Outstanding Leadership in Disabilities (GOLD) Award. The GOLD Awards is an opportunity for Louisiana to pay tribute to the achievements and dedication of individuals in the disability community. Dr. Agnieszka Gutthy (World Languages and Cultures) presented her paper at XXXIV Congreso Internacional De Literatura y Estudios Hispánicos. Her paper, titled “Metaficción y el cuestionamiento moral en El ángulo ciego de Luisa Etxenike,” discusses the use of the metafiction and the postmodern aesthetics in the work of a contemporary Basque writer. At the 41st Annual Gulf South History and Humanities Conference in Natchez, Miss., last month, 鶹Ƶ History graduate student Lauren Guillory won the William S. Coker Award for the best paper presented by a graduate student. The title of her paper was “Sugar Tariffs and the Louisiana Lobby, 1890-1930.” The research was funded by the Nicholas Cefalu Graduate Research Assistantship at the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies courtesy of the Cefalu family.
