Myanmar is one of the worst hunger crises in the world and among the most neglected emergencies.
A total of 12.4 million people face acute hunger, including 1 million people at emergency levels urgently needing life-saving assistance.
Conflict and political crises have reversed progress on ending hunger and malnutrition, with a majority of people struggling with physical, social and economic access to food. Women, girls, elderly people, persons with disabilities and minorities are particularly affected. Needs were compounded by a devastating earthquake in March 2025, while the country remains one of the most vulnerable to climate-related disasters.
High levels of food insecurity are particularly prevalent in conflict-affected areas. At the same time, there are massive disruptions or slowdowns in sectors including banking, healthcare, education and transport.
A total of 3.6 million people have been displaced from their homes. Meanwhile, almost 1 million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar remain in Bangladesh.
One in three children under the age of 5 suffers from stunting ?(low height for their age), while more than half a million children were projected to suffer from wasting in 2025 ¨C a 26 percent rise from 2024. Tuberculosis? and ?HIV ?infections are also on the rise, amid weakened health services and growing drug use since 2021.
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) provides life-saving food and cash assistance to internally displaced people and other vulnerable populations. This support is threatened by severe funding shortfalls, however. Â鶹ÊÓƵ also responds to sudden-onset emergencies.
